Shavkat Mirziyoyev, born in the Zaamin district of the Jizzakh region of the Uzbek SSR in 1957, is a well-known figure in Uzbekistan. His father, Islom Mirziyoyev, held various positions in Uzbekistan, including Minister of Trade and First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan.

After receiving his education at the Tashkent Institute of Railway Engineers and Mechanics, Shavkat Mirziyoyev worked in various positions in industry and public service. His career saw him appointed as hokim (governor) of the Samarkand region in 1996.

In 2001, he took on the role of First Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan. Then, in 2003, he became the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan. Following the death of Islam Karimov on September 8, 2016, the government appointed Shavkat Mirziyoyev as Acting President of Uzbekistan. He won the presidential election in October 2016 and secured re-election for a second term in the 2021 presidential elections.

Economic Reforms

Under Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s presidency, Uzbekistan has undergone significant reforms. These include economic liberalization, strengthening of the rule of law, and expansion of civil liberties. Moreover, Uzbekistan has begun to actively develop international cooperation.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev pays great attention to the development of Uzbekistan’s infrastructure. He launched large-scale projects for the construction of roads, bridges, railways, airports, and other infrastructure facilities. Uzbekistan has become a member of many international organizations, including the UN, the World Trade Organization, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Uzbekistan also actively cooperates with the countries of Central Asia, Russia, China, and other countries of the world.

The presidency of Shavkat Mirziyoyev is positively evaluated both in Uzbekistan and abroad. He is considered one of the most successful presidents in the history of the country. His achievements include economic development of Uzbekistan, increase in investment in the country, improvement of the trade balance, reduction of poverty, infrastructure development, economic liberalization, strengthening of the rule of law, and expansion of civil liberties.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev is a leader who has been able to carry out large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan that contribute to the development of the country and improve the lives of its citizens.
